Originally from Shanghai, China, Fan earned a degree in Communication from Pepperdine University in 2010 and began her career in live entertainment in Asia with AEG, overseeing acts including Metallica, the Rolling Stones, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Sir Elton John, Justin Bieber, and Bruno Mars, among others.

In 2016, Fan relocated to New York City to study photography at Columbia University, interning with Annie Leibovitz’s studio that same summer. She was later named one of the new generation of Chinese photographers by Artsy.

Fan is a frequent contributor to the New York Times, and her editorial works are featured in Rolling Stone, and Vogue, among others. Her photography centers on intimacy, feminism, and individual spirit, rendered through a signature cinematic aesthetic.

Fan has been commissioned by the Academy (A.M.P.A.S.) to document behind-the-scenes of the Oscars for two consecutive ceremonies - the 97th and 98th and her work has extended into directing motion shorts, including a motion short on Marilyn Monroe’s famous pink dress from movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for the Academy Museum.

Fan lives between New York and Los Angeles.
